What impact did the NEWH scholarship have on me?
We asked past scholarship recipients to share the impact their scholarship and NEWH as a whole has had on them. Check it out!

When it comes to education, it is great for anyone who would like to advance or further his or her career thus; there could be more opportunities to succeed in life. I was fortunate enough to have received three scholarships in 2006, 2007, and 2008 from NEWH and I am forever grateful because they meant a lot to me. That is, they helped me pay for books and tuition as well as graduate several moths early.
When I received my first scholarship in 2006, I vowed to help NEWH in every way possible like volunteering for some events, so it continue helping other students who could have the same opportunity of being awarded in the near future. As a scholarship recipient, I attended at the Leadership Conference 2006. It was an honor and because I was able to learn from others and share my experience thorough the conference as well as during my speech after the Gala Diner for students.
In 2008, the Board of Directors of South Florida Chapter created a new position to better serve the students and the community and I have been serving as student representative ever since.
This is a synopsis of what I do for NEWH as a way of helping it to continue to operate and be able to assist deserving students of Hospitality by providing scholarships: I visit different schools and talk with students about what is NEWH and what it does for them. In some instances, there are students who are not aware of NEWH; after they know more, they join and volunteer for certain events. I perceive that letting NEWH be known
is my way of supporting it because it can raise funds to achieve its main objective, awarding more scholarships to outstanding students and help the community.
I feel more grateful today than I felt several years ago because NEWH really helped me get my Hospitality degree, which was something that could only dream of and now I bear it for ever. NEWH is more of what one might think; it not only provides scholarships, but it also provides leadership which has vastly benefited me.
As a student currently working on my MBA, I see NEWH as a road to a successful career. From a management perspective, I see NEWH as a guide to quantify a business’s performance because members serve as mentors and they are very encouraging. In inference, had I not been awarded not one, not two, but three scholarships from NEWH, I would have gotten my BS in hospitality the way I did. Had I not joined and volunteered, I would have not appreciated what it did for me the same.
Had I not accepted the newly position of Student Representative and spoken with students from several universities, I would have not helped. I am very passionate about Hospitality, Business, and education nowadays because everything that I have received and learned from NEWH. I am forever grateful.

My name is Andrea Ryan, and I have been fortunate enough to receive two scholarships from NEWH, the Orlando chapter and the South Florida chapter. I was extremely honored and grateful to receive both scholarships, and found it very gratifying to work so hard and be rewarded by such a noteworthy organization. I am a non-traditional student and single mother who has struggled through college to make ends meet while attending school and raising a child. Both of the scholarships I was awarded helped to relieve our hardship tremendously, and gave me the peace of mind that I could continue and make it through. I am currently a senior at the University of Florida and expect to graduate in the spring. I hope to find a job at an architectural design firm in Florida shortly thereafter. I am truly thankful for NEWH and their contribution to the pursuit of my dreams.
