Cincinnati, OH, August 29, 2016 â More than 100 thought leaders from the world of hospitality design, development, purchasing and architecture will share their perspectives at the Boutique Design New York (BDNY) trade fair and conference, Nov. 13-14, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
World-renowned designer Karim Rashid, whose remake of Temptation Resort & Spa Cancun was featured in Boutique Designâs July/August issue, will kick off the BDNY conference with a keynote presentation on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 10:00 AM. A prolific, multi-disciplined designer with some 3,000 designs in production, Rashid will share his strategies for creating provocative design with a practical foundation.
Following Rashidâs presentation, Boutique Design executive editor and HMG conference director Mary Scoviak will moderate a discussion with CEOs of leading lifestyle brands on the trends, challenges and âextra skillsâ that will win commissions in their dynamic segment of the hospitality market. Panelists for âLiving the Lifestyle: A View From the C-Suiteâ include Ingo Schweder, chief executive officer and founder, GOCO Hospitality; Josh Wyatt, president, Equinox Hotels; and others to be announced.
âWe are so excited to present this unique opportunity for our attendees to get a master class from a designer whoâs rewritten the design rule book in so many waysâjust as our lifestyle leaders have done from an operations and development perspective,â said Scoviak.
The Opening Keynote is the first of 35+ panel discussions, design-firm Q&As and CEU sessions on the two-day conference agenda. Sessions are grouped into four tracks: Inspiration, Information, Interaction and a new addition for 2016, Intel, which focuses on helping designers improve their business management skills and processes.
Among the Intel sessions for 2016 is âTru Story,â a panel discussion moderated by Alexandra Jaritz, global head, TRU by Hilton, that will give BDNY attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the process of crafting a new hotel flag, courtesy of the team that developed the midscale hotel brand targeting youthful, value-minded travelers. Panelists confirmed to date include Tom Horwitz, executive vice president, FRCH Design Worldwide, and Mitch Patel, president & chief executive officer, Vision Hospitality Group, Inc.

Lorraine Francis, regional director of hospitality interiors, Gensler, will moderate; panelists include Paul Scialla, founder, chief executive officer, Delos, and others to be announced.

The signature âNew in New Yorkâ session invites attendees to learn the secrets of some of the yearâs high-profile hospitality debuts, including The Beekman hotel, opening this month in Lower Manhattanâs historic Temple Court Building.
