DESCRIPTION: LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are safe, high-performing light sources that outperform other illumination technologies in a broadening portfolio of applications. Retrofitting existing lighting with LEDs is a cost-effective way to reduce building energy use and improve the quality of the lighting system. This course explores the benefits of an LED retrofit to the building owner and the occupants, identifies different retrofit strategies, and explains how to plan an upgrade to energy-efficient lighting. OBJECTIVES: At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1) explain how inclusive restrooms can protect the safety of all users regardless of their gender identity, age, health, or mobility challenges, 2) analyze a variety of materials for restroom fixtures to determine what properties and design features make them sustainable, hygienic, and functional for all, 3) discuss washroom design strategies that help to mitigate common concerns regarding safety and privacy for various users, and 4) compare the advantages and disadvantages of inclusive, single-user washrooms and inclusive, multi-stall washrooms to determine the right design option for a specific application.
