The Art of Airflow: Custom Ventilation Grilles

AEC Daily — IDCEC Course# AEC1442: Credit 0.1HSW

DESCRIPTION: Ventilation grilles influence HVAC system performance but can pose aesthetic challenges for designers. Custom grilles made with modern fabrication techniques employ a variety of materials and finishes to create solutions that enhance and fully integrate with architectural interiors. This course discusses the basic mechanics of effective air distribution in buildings, performance characteristics of grilles, grille types, and custom design options. OBJECTIVES: At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1) describe factors influencing air diffusion, 2) describe the role of ventilation grilles in HVAC system performance, 3) identify performance characteristics of ventilation grilles, 4) describe design and installation options for custom ventilation grilles, and 5) list specialty applications for decorative and architectural grilles.
