Congratulations to our 2020 Scholarship Recipient – Mayada Alhomsi!
What drew you to your field of study?
I have a bachelor’s degree in architecture from overseas. And I wanted to promote my knowledge in interior architecture to complement that architectural background. In addition, I am passionate about creating spaces with artistic sensibility For me, architecture is an applied art, intertwined with other aspects of the built, natural and human environments.
What are your major short-term and long-term career goals?
My short-term career goal is to work for a well-known architectural firm where I could grow and contribute to their relationship to the surrounding environments. The long-term goal is to open my own firm and pursue what I have learned in my dream career. Both short and long-term , I hope to foster the well-being of communities, and the planet.
Who has inspired you in your life and how?
Since childhood, I dreamt of being an architect as I was inspired by a poem titled “Little Architect.” After becoming an architect, Zaha Hadid was my inspirational role model. Her tireless work, perseverance and dedication lifted architecture to a higher and distinctive level, and she built a name with a unique style.
How have your past experiences prepared you for a career in hospitality?
I love that hospitality is a diverse field, with so much impact on people’s lives. I am excited by the possibilities of designing all sorts of spaces. Satisfying clients’ desires is a priority, and I would be happy to make a difference in the building’s users’ experience.

I would say to the sponsors who make the scholarships possible, I am honored and grateful for this great opportunity and I salute their initiatives which encourage students like me to apply.
