December 6, 2023 – NEWH/AC-Philly hosted a seated 4-course Italian dinner at a local mom & pop restaurant in the heart of South Philly. The intimate family-style gathering was sold out and had an unprecedented 100% attendance! It was the perfect capstone to a wonderful year for our local Hospitality family. This was also a heart-felt celebration of our outgoing and incoming board members, as well as an award ceremony for our (2) 2024 scholarship awardees.

 

 

 

 

October 20, 2022 – Future with a View gala was an Epic night! We brought our design and development industry together for an incredible cause- scholarships for the students who are our future!

December 4, 2019 – NEWH AC/Philly held a informative tour at ROOST Market East. The evening consisted of hearing from the marketing team at ROOST as well as the design director of Method Co. Guests were able to take guided tours of the rooms and enjoy the amenity spaces where the event was held. In addition, the board presented the 2018 Scholarship award to Sarah Ramble.

 

 

 

 

April 18, 2019 – NEWH AC/Philly held their kickoff event at Homewood Suites in Valley Vorge. Michelle Field, President of MBF Interior Designs, gave a guided tour of the major renovations of public spaces and guest rooms at the Homewood Suites Valley Forge. Also, the Audubon Land Development featured a video presentation on the Hilton Valley Forge “Tru” property currently under construction on site.

February 23, 2017 – A Night at the Bakery. NEWH AC| Philadelphia hosted their first event of the year Le Pain Quotidien in Center City Philadelphia for a cooking class. It was a fun night of food, wine, and pizza making! Thank you all for everyone who attended and help plan this great event. This was an awesome way to start off the year.

 

 

 

December 1, 2016 – On December 1st NEWH AC | Philadelphia’s bi-annual fundraising event Strut Your Stuff at Union Transfer was an incredibly fun-filled event! The evening was filled with a live Runway Performance – with Floss Barber, Roberta Gruber and Michael Shannon as our celebrity judges – as well as, The Mummers, a Silent Auction featuring fabulous items, amazing Raffle Prizes, a presentation of our 2016 Scholarship Award Recipients and delicious Food and Spirits!

 

 

October 22, 2015. NEWH AC/Philadelphia held their Annual Scholarship Fundraiser and Awards Ceremony on October 22nd at The Powell House in Philadelphia. Attendees enjoyed an evening of networking, touring the history home in Center City, Keynote speaker-Jonathan Deutsch, Ph.D, silent auction and passed hor d’oeuvres. The Jonathan Deutsch, Ph.D, Professor and Founding Director of Drexel’s Center for Hospitality and Sport Management, gave a fantastic discussion about the reach of hospitality in the local community that aren’t thought about once outside of hotels and restaurants. Congratulations to our 2015 Scholarship Awards Winners! Rebecca Krick, Temple University-$5,000.00; Maria Perocco, Drexel University- $3,000.00; and Daniel Jarosz, Widener University- $2,000.00. September 17, 2015 – For 2015 NEWH AC/Philly held their Annual Community Service Event at the new location of Dress for Success Philadelphia. In the past members of NEWH Atlantic City/Philadelphia have donated their time, talent and product to Dress for Success (DFS) Philadelphia at their previous location. Many of these designs and products have been carried over to the new location of DFS. Attendees at this event, planned by Carol Mortimer, Wolf Gordon, and Christina Mecca, Arcus Design Group, enjoyed a networking session, tour of the new facility and over view of what DFS is all about, discussion about the impact that DFS has and light refreshments provided by Wolf Gordon. May 21, 2015. The NEWH AC/Philly Chapter held their annual Student Internship/Mentor Day on May 21st in tandom with the Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC). Students in the Academy of Culinary Arts at ACCC enjoyed “Boot Camp For Your Brain” Tip/Techniques to keep you healthy in a “Pressure Cooker” seminar presented by Chef Annmarie Chelius. Chef Chelius discussed simple exercises to keep you energetic (swinging arms picture); how to eat healthy (how you can balance your own chakra to keep you calm); and the importance of creating rituals to enter and exit your work day…( we did an OM mantra and I made turmeric tea which they loved). At the of the seminar each student received a package of doilie samples and a bottle of pure vanilla extract..While students in the Philadelphia area were paired with industry professionals in their chosen field coordinated by Christina Mecca and Susan Kersch. This was the first year that the NEWH Chapter teamed up with Atlantic Cape Community College to hold a tandem event. The turn out for this years’ student intern day more than doubled last years’ attendees.

 

April 15, 2015. A special THANK YOU to everyone who attended the April 15th Restaurant Tour & Networking Event at Christopher’s a Neighborhood Place in Malvern, PA. It was our chapter’s first suburban event and it was a great success! Chef Todd was extremely generous with his time, proudly walking us through the restaurant and the back-of-the-house area pointing out special design features and occasionally a few flaws. He also provided us with an abundance of delicious appetizers to enjoy throughout the evening! We also had the pleasure of meeting Restaurant Architect, Paul Salvaggio of Arcus Design Group, who’s wife and 18 month old twins also joined us for the event! Thank you ALL for your unending commitment and support! We couldn’t do this without you! Can’t wait to see you again at our next event!

 

March 19, 2015 – On March 19th NEWH Atlantic City/Greater Philadelphia held a Tour and Meet & Greet at the Loews Hotel Philadelphia. Attendees enjoyed a tour of the hotel and taking a peak into the guestrooms, Millennium Ballroom and the new restaurant within the building, Bank & Bourbon from the hotel management and chapter members who worked on the project. November 6th, 2014 – In November, 2014 NEWH Atlantic City/Greater Philadelphia Chapter held it’s annual Scholarship Awards Event at the Avalon Flooring Showroom in Philadelphia, PA. The event was hosted by Avalon Flooring and included Pros on site to answer any and all inquires about carpet, tile, natural stone, hardwood, vinyl, laminate, area rugs and window treatments. During the event for the first time in chapter history, the three scholarship awards winners, totaling a grand total of $6,000.00 scholarships being awarded that evening alone.

The 2014 Chapter Scholarship Award Winners are Ariana Paul of Drexel University in first place, followed by Emily Klein of Atlantic Cape Community College and Theresa Griffin from Moore College of Art in second and third place respectively. And in the tradition of our scholarship awards event, there was a raffle drawing for an Avalon Flooring rug that was won by Chris Baker of Topher Design. Congratulations to all of our Scholarship Awards Winners!

June 4, 2014. Atlantic City/Philadelphia’s Dine and Design was held on June 4th was a great evening of old friends. Lee Brotsker of LB Design made a presentation describing his restaurant design for The Princeton in Avalon, NJ. In addition, we had dinner and a tour from Michael the manager at The Diving Horse Restaurant also in Avalon, NJ. Michael described all of the re-purpose design elements from high school gym door to old hotel heater grates. A large attendance which was enjoyed by all.

 

 

On April 8th, 2014 NEWH Atlantic City/Greater Philadelphia Chapter held a Lunch Time Tour at The Fitler Dining Room in Philadelphia. Attendees of the event met one of the most progressive restaurant groups in the Delaware Valley. The Fitler Dining Room is a recent addition to the Diving Horse Restaurant in Avalon, NJ and the original Pub and Kitchen in Center City Philadelphia.

 

 

 

March 4, 2014. NEWH AC-Philly held a NEWH Membership and Networking Event lead by Marianne Noval at the Sub Zero and Wolf Showroom – Philadelphia Naval Yard. -ZerAttendees enjoyed an evening of learning about the latest and greatest from Sub-Zero and Wolf with guided tours of the showroom. Attendees also enjoyed learning about the benefits of becoming a member of NEWH. The presentation by Francine Marz from The Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College titled, ” Get a Chef’s Perspective in Kitchen Design” captivated the attendees with the dos and no don’ts in commercial kitchen design. To close out the night there were light refreshments and a business card drawing for a Keurig Coffee Maker. It was a great evening of NEWH and networking- thank you everyone who helped to make the evening possible!

 

February 11, 2014 – NEWH Atlantic City/Phildelphia held a guided tasting tour of Philadelphia’s most prized chocolate destinations in the Center City region on February 11th. 2014. Attendees were invited to bring their Valentine, friend, student, or fellow designer and savor the decadent flavors of our city’s chocolatiers!

 

 

 

 

 

October 2013  NEWH Atlantic City/Greater Philadelphia celebrated its Fifth Year as a Chapter in October, 2013.  To celebrate the anniversary, photos from the last five years were collected and shared with both present and past members of the chapter on social media. Photographs highlighted key moments in the chapter’s history, scholarship winners, memorable events, CEUs and fundraisers. NEWH AC-Philly, as the chapter is lovingly called today, has given out four Chapter Scholarship Awards, tallying $7,500.00 in Scholarship monies, to four talented up and coming Hospitality Interior Designers in the area.  Also, the Chapter has held their now signature “Product Runway” in both Atlantic City and Philadelphia locations bringing together the design community for a night of creative fashion, pairing design firms and product representatives to design one of a kind looks to strut down the runway.  NEWH AC-Philly has also done community service projects in the Philadelphia area, including pairing up with Manna and Phil-a-Meal.  As NEWH AC-Philly looks back on what has been accomplished, there is still plenty more great events, CEUs, and fundraisers to come

 

March. 2013. NEWH AC/GP held “High Performance in Hospitality” Panel Discussion on March 21st at the Center for Architecture in Philadelphia.  Attendees heard from 3 leading industry members on how to reduce costs and increase efficiency within their current projects.

 

 

 

 

 

February.2013. Members of the NEWH AC/GP chapter held their Second Chapter Community Service Project/Event on February 21, 2013. The Project/Event Phil-A-Meal with Manna was held in Philadelphia, PA at Manna where chapter members helped to prepare meals for those in need.

 

 

 

January.2013. January 25-26, 2013 NEWH Atlantic City/Greater Philadephia Board Members and 2012 Chapter Scholarship Winner attended the Biannual NEWH Leadership Conference in San Francisco, CA. Attendees enjoyed keynote speakers, break out sessions, networking opportunities and a regional trade show at this event.

December.2012. NEWH/ACGP held their annual Board Meeting/ Holiday Celebration at Hotel Monaco on December 5th in Philadelphia. The 2012/2013 Board Members enjoyed a Project Tour of the facility, including the roof top bar/lounge.  Then attendees held a board meeting in one of the private meeting rooms and proceed to enjoy dinner together to reflect on the year’s accomplishments and what is to come in 2013.  Attendees also collected Toys for Tots while at the evenings festivities and were dropped off at a collection station later that evening.

October. 2012. NEWH/ACGP held their Second Annual Product Runaway Scholarship Fundraiser at Tendenza in Philadelphia, PA. THe Event included a networking session, fashion show, designs created by 10 different teams of designers/architects and reps., host Jeff Devlin, Celebrity Judges, Suede, Sarah Van Aken, and Bill Rooney, and the 2012 Scholarshop Award was given to Casey Thompson.

September.2012. NEWH/AC.GP toured the newly renovated Latham Hotel in Philadelphia, PA on September 20th.  The Project Tour was lead by BLTa and the Latham Hotel Property Management. Attendees learned about BLTa’s design process and the evolution from working on just the reception area and restaurant to working on aspects of the entire building in collaboration with an outside designer.

August.2012. NEWH/AC.GP held their first CEU at BFC Ltd.on Carpet Sustainability Assessment at their facility. After completing the CEU course attends took a short drive over to the new REVEL Casino Resort in Atlantic City for a project tour.

July. 2012. NEWH/AC.GP held a Project Tour of the Lights of Liberty on July 19th in Philadelphia, PA. The Project Tour was lead by the designers of Daroff Design.

June. 2012. Newh/Atlantic City/Greater Philadelphia enjoyed a Project Tour at The Windrift in Avalon, NJ by Noble Hampton Inc.  Attendees were givien the inside scoop on how the design of The Windridt came about and a guided tour thoughout the space. Attendees also enjoyed a networking session prior to the tour over looking the property.

May. 2012. NEWH/Atlantic City/Greater Philadelphia held a casual Happy Hour at M Restaurant  on May 17th in Philadelphia.

April. 2012. NEWH/Atlantic City/Greater Philadelphia held a project tour at The Crossings in Hamiton. NJ on April 19th.  The project tour was lead by Design East Inc and Edgewater Properties through the club house and various housing options. Attendees also enjoyed a networking session prior to the project tour and after the Product Runway Design Teams Announcement.

March. 2012. NEWH/Atlantic City/Greater Philadelphia held their first ever Community Service Project at Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Philadelphia, PA  on March 31st.  Attendees helped with daily tasks within the store, from merchandising, refurbishing furniture to helping customer’s choose the best possible product for their homes.  Photography of this Community Service Event was once again provided by Paul Loftland of Paul Loftland Photography. February. 2012. NEWH/Atlantic City Chapter held a Project Tour at The Madison in Riverside, NJ on February 23rd from 6-7:30PM. Attendees enjoyed a tour by Wendy Holden and Associates Interior Design, LLC about the concepts behind the design and concept of this space. January. 2012. NEWH/Atlantic City Chapter held a Project Tour at Sbaraga in Philadelphia, PA on Janruary 26, 2012 from 12pm-1pm. The Project Tour was lead by AP3Architects and Kevin Sbraga.  Attendees were given a tour of the new Center City Restaurant and insight to the design process that created the space we see today.

December. 2011. NEWH/Atlantic City Chapter held a small, invite only Holiday Social and Scholarship Awards on December 8, 2011 at McCormick&Schmicks, Cherry Hill, NJ.  The 2011 Chapter Board Members, incoming 2012 Chapter Board Members, 2011 Sponsors and our 2011 Scholarship Winner, Julia Mazza.  It was an evening of networking, good food and good company.

October. 2011.  NEWH/Atlantic City Chapter held their Annual Scholarship Fundraiser at North Bowl in Philadelphia on October 27,2011.  Attendees of the event enjoyed an evening of networking, bowling, raffle/auction and a costume contest. Raffle/Auction items were donated by various companies to help raise funds for the NEWH/Altantic City Chapter 2012 Scholarship.
